Halloween with 4 to 6 year olds: activities and games that fit

At 4, 5 or 6, Halloween should stay magical and reassuring. Kids love searching, coloring and dressing up, but most can't read yet. Here are activities made for them, ready in minutes.
Games without reading
Before first grade, pick games that work with pictures. A grown-up reads aloud, the child searches, points and guesses.
- A treasure hunt with picture clues: a drawing of the fridge, and off they run to the fridge
- Monster bingo: spot the picture, place a token
- A “Who am I?” game where a grown-up reads three simple clues
No real scares
At this age, the line between play and reality is thin. Go for silly ghosts, black cats and smiling pumpkins rather than skeletons and screams. Keep a light on and stay in the room.
Keep activities short
A 4-year-old's attention lasts about 10 to 15 minutes per activity. Chain three short moments instead: a coloring page, an active game, then a snack.
The right time
Plan the evening early, between 4 and 6:30 pm: kids are in good shape and bedtime isn't pushed back. A treasure hunt at dusk with a flashlight is all the atmosphere you need.
